What I do

My day job is on the security team at a manufacturing company, so OT and IoT security is part of the work.

Security Operations Center Analyst / Threat Defense Lead

Since May 2024

  • Incident command

    I'm the incident commander for our high severity incidents. I coordinate containment, eradication and recovery with the IT, infrastructure and risk teams.

  • Threat hunting and detections

    I hunt through SIEM and endpoint telemetry and review our detections against MITRE ATT&CK. I drove our SIEM rule tuning and brought in threat intel mapped to ATT&CK. That work helped bring false positives down by about 40%.

  • Defender for IoT

    I led the rollout of Microsoft Defender for IoT across the company. It helped cut the time it takes to detect IoT and OT threats by about 60%.

  • Playbooks and mentoring

    I write IR playbooks and case documentation, and I mentor junior analysts.

Independent forensics and pen testing

Since December 2023 part time, remote

When something happens on a machine or a network, my job is to figure out what.

I do host and network forensics with Autopsy, Volatility and Wireshark, and adversary simulation for pen tests. Then I write up the findings for the client's technical people and their executives.

My concentration was digital forensics and criminal investigation. I specialized in reconstructing evidence from media that was severely damaged, corrupted or wiped.
